In these trying times it is important to take every precaution that we can. In order to keep school buildings open depends upon awareness of and immediate action on any COVID-19 concerns. With that being said, the Department of Education has decided to move forward with assessing children and adults within the school community.
An initiative to mandate students for random COVID testing will begin in early October. The links provided below provide a permission slip that must be returned to the school stating your consent. Please note that parents may not be present. If you do not feel comfortable with this process you always have the right to refuse testing but families who do not provide consent may be required to participate in remote-only learning. Your consent will remain in effect until September 30, 2021. However, you can withdraw consent at any time. In order to do this you must let us know in writing about your desire to change.
COVID testing will be done by one trained individual on one day in a private area of the school. A “short swab” is inserted into the nose for five to ten seconds. The whole testing process will take approximately 15-30 minutes and the school will give you two-day notice before the testing will take place.
In-school testing cannot be replaced with those of other outside sources. The results of the test will be known between 48 and 72 hours and will be reported to you and sent to two places additional places (Dept. of Health and Test &Trace Corps). Again, this is your choice but in order to fulfill your wish I am asking that you return the permission slip as quickly as possible. I also want to wish everyone a successful school year for your child. Stay healthy and stay safe!
